Beta Announcement
I'm excited to announce some major changes coming to the YouTube Comments Downloader. I've been listening to your feedback, developing new features, and making adjustments to improve the overall experience. These changes have led to the creation of a beta version of the tool that is designed to better serve your needs. Let me guide you through what's new, what's different, and how I'm working to make the transition smoother for everyone.
What's new
CSV and JSON export
You asked, and I listened. You can now download comments in these universally-accepted formats.
Saving as HTML
Now, with a single click, you can easily save comments in an HTML format. All comments are conveniently displayed on a single page, allowing you to quickly search and find specific content.
Revamped UI
I've refreshed the user interface, making it even more intuitive and user-friendly.
Multiple Video Downloads Coming Soon
In the near future, you'll be able to download comments from multiple videos at once.
Live Stream and Community Posts Support Coming Soon
I'm actively working on bringing you the ability to download comments from live streams and community posts.
API Access Coming Soon
An API for those who desire more advanced usage is in the pipeline.
What's different
As you may have noticed, there will be paid plans. I understand if this comes as a shock, but I promise it wasn't a decision made lightly. Here's why I had to make this move:
YouTube API Limitations
YouTube's API just wasn't cutting it anymore, and they didn't seem keen on cooperating with me. I was told my app was a "clone", which led to limits being imposed on API usage. Forcing every user go get their own API key wasn't a feasible solution.
Servers and algorithm maintenance
I've developed an alternate method to extract comments which requires maintaining servers and the code that runs on them.
Time
Since its launch in 2017, the app has been free, I've been working on it in my spare time, while working for serious companies, building teams and products, having a solid source of income. But right now I am at a point in my life where I want to dedicate time to my own projects, and to do that, I simply can't work for free anymore.
Audience
I believe that our primary users are those who make money on YouTube or thanks to the content they find here. These are people who understand the value of time and efficiency. The tool I provide significantly reduces the amount of time spent loading comments, enabling more focus on the essential tasks that lead to income generation. For casual YouTube users, you can continue reading comments the old-fashioned way without needing this tool.
Making the transition smoother
This is a big change and might take some getting used to. I value your feedback and would love to hear what you think of the new beta version. Here are a few things I'm doing to make the transition smoother.
Free tier
There will be a free tier, although it will come with some limitations.
Current app will remain free
The current app will remain free, but will be hosted on a different domain and will not be updated.
Regional Pricing
I'm aware that $10 in USA is not equal to $10 in India, it's more like $20 in USA, so I will adjust the prices accordingly using the Big Mac Index. Although this requires some work, it won't be available in the beta.
Join the Beta Today
I've got a special offer for early adopters. If you join the beta before the end of July, you can take advantage of generous discount codes.
Thanks for your understanding and support as I continue to improve this tool for you. Enjoy exploring!
