Connect YouTube Comments Downloader to ChatGPT
Add YouTube Comments Downloader to the ChatGPT desktop app once, and ChatGPT can download YouTube comments and transcripts for you right in the chat. It works on every ChatGPT plan, with Free and Go rolling out, and takes about five minutes.
Before you start
- A YouTube Comments Downloader account. A free account lets you try it with its free credits; for regular use, get the subscription. Prepaid credit packs and the desktop app license do not include AI app access.
- A ChatGPT account on any plan: Plus, Pro, Business, Edu, or Enterprise. OpenAI is still rolling the desktop app out to Free and Go accounts.
- The ChatGPT desktop app for Mac, Windows, or Linux. Download it from OpenAI.
- You add YouTube Comments Downloader in the desktop app, and you use it in chats in the desktop app. ChatGPT in the browser and the mobile app do not use servers added there.

Try a first request
“Download the comments from this YouTube video and tell me what viewers ask about most: <video link>”
“List my latest finished YouTube comment downloads.”
If something goes wrong
- The sign-in window says your plan does not include it
- Prepaid credit packs and the desktop app license do not include AI app access. Subscribe, then select Authenticate again.
- ChatGPT says your plan does not include access
- The subscription on your account has ended. Subscribe again, then ask again. If it still fails, remove YouTube Comments Downloader and add it again.
- You do not see MCP servers in Settings
- Make sure you are in the ChatGPT desktop app, not chatgpt.com in a browser, and update the app to the latest version. Get the latest version.
- ChatGPT does not use YouTube Comments Downloader
- Check that it shows as signed in under Settings → MCP servers, then start a new chat. Mentioning YouTube Comments Downloader in your request helps.
- ChatGPT asks you to confirm
- ChatGPT may ask before actions that change something, such as starting a download. Confirm to continue.
Checked against OpenAI's guide to MCP servers on October 26, 2026. ChatGPT may rename menus over time; the official page has the latest wording.
