A thin connection to the YCD API

The MCP server translates tool calls into the API requests that already power YouTube Comments Downloader. This keeps exports, billing, quota, formats, and error responses in one place.

Endpoint
https://api.youtubecommentsdownloader.com/mcpHTTPS

Use the remote endpoint from a compatible client. The connection is stateless and does not require a local runtime or an additional package.

Tools

The v1 tool surface

Names are designed for an AI client; the route mapping stays with the existing API.

Export lifecycle

create_youtube_comments_exportPOST /v1/downloads/
get_youtube_export_statusGET /v1/downloads/:id
list_youtube_exportsGET /v1/downloads
cancel_youtube_exportPOST /v1/downloads/:id/cancel
restart_youtube_exportPOST /v1/downloads/:id/restart

Files and research tools

get_youtube_export_fileGET /v1/downloads/:id/save?format=...
get_youtube_channel_detailsPOST /api/v1/tools/channel-details
get_youtube_community_imagesPOST /api/v1/tools/community-images
Authentication

OAuth when the client supports it, API key when it does not

Remote clients can use OAuth 2.1 with PKCE S256. Access tokens last 15 minutes and refresh tokens rotate for 30 days.

Existing YCD API keys are also accepted through the x-api-key header. Create them in the dashboard and keep them out of prompts and source control.

Authentication only identifies the account. Existing quota, plan, and billing checks still run in the API.

File contract

Return the file you already know

The file tool returns the same public-by-ID URL used by the current export flow. It does not create signed links or copy files into MCP storage.

jsoncsvhtmlxlsxtxtzip

Public export access by ID is an intentional product contract for public data.

Scope

What is deliberately not here

No second export engine

MCP calls the existing HTTP API and uses the current queues and records.

No file protection layer

Existing public download URLs stay public by ID, exactly as they are today.

No invented search tool

Comment search belongs in MCP after the main API exposes the matching capability.

No Redis auth state

OAuth context is stored in PocketBase and kept warm briefly in process memory.
